An opening reception and concert will be held at The Freebird Gallery on Saturday May 9th 6-9pm. The work included in “Beasts, Buildings, and Storms” is lively,
inventive, and often challenging. Of her creative process, Ms. Wittenberg says, “I approach my materials without forethought, with an open mind. All the marks and words are raw. I do not
Of the work she explains, “Each of the elements in this series, “Beasts, Buildings, & Storms” have multiple meanings and identities, but in their most basic forms, they act as representations of worlds, beings, and states both real and imagined.” The drawings created by Ms. Wittenberg will be grouped together to form a large mosaic or mural whose meaning is both symbolic and mysterious, much like prehistoric cave drawings.
In addition to Ms. Wittenberg's drawings, the Pop-up Opening will include a performance by Seacoast singer and songwriter Eric Ott, who will be on hand to perform an acoustic set at 8pm. Mr. Ott's lush work is performed with genuine emotion and skill. Because of his musical talents, he was named Singer/Songwriter of the Year (2012) by Seacoast Spotlight and was the recipient of the Spotlight on
the Arts Award for Best Musician (2010). Eric has performed with some of the best musicians in the area and his work has earned him a reputation as a songwriter and performer who approaches his music with honesty and integrity. Samples of Eric Ott's work are available on YouTube.
